Getting here
The local way in is the farm grid, and it never touches a freeway. Leave North Plains on NW Commercial Street, then work southwest across NW Gordon Road, NW Zion Church Road, NW Cornelius Schefflin Road, NW Verboort Road and NW Martin Road until you drop onto OR-47. Follow OR-47 south into Forest Grove, turn east onto Pacific Avenue for about a third of a mile, then south onto Mountain View Lane. We are roughly 600 feet down, at the corner of 19th Avenue, Suite 300, with a free lot.
- Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club sits northwest of town. Ghost Creek is the public course; Witch Hollow hosted the 1996 U.S. Amateur and the U.S. Women's Open in both 1997 and 2003.
- Jessie Mays Community Park hosts the Elephant Garlic Festival every August, and the Jessie Mays Community Center next to it is the landmark most North Plains directions start from.
- Horning's Hideout is north of town — the reason a good share of North Plains weekend traffic is people who have been camping, walking or standing at a show for two days.
- The signposted route for anyone who is not local is US-26 west from Exit 57 to the OR-47 junction, then OR-47 south into Forest Grove. Residents give the exit number; the farm grid is faster.
- McMenamins Grand Lodge is about half a mile west of us on the same street, and we are the last commercial block of Forest Grove before the Cornelius line.
The drive
8.6 miles by road, 6.6 as the crow flies — and the gap tells you everything
North Plains is 6.6 miles from this studio in a straight line and 8.6 miles by road. That two-mile difference is not traffic engineering, it is agriculture: the land between the two towns is farmed in a grid, and a grid makes you drive two sides of a triangle. It also means the drive takes about 14 to 18 minutes rather than the eight or nine minutes the straight-line distance suggests. Nobody who lives out here finds that surprising, but it is worth saying plainly before someone plans an arrival time.
The local route never touches a freeway. You leave town on NW Commercial Street and then work southwest across a sequence of roads that anyone who grew up here can recite: NW Gordon Road, NW Zion Church Road, NW Cornelius Schefflin Road, NW Verboort Road, NW Martin Road. They deliver you onto OR-47 just north of Forest Grove. From there it is south into town, east on Pacific Avenue for about a third of a mile, and south onto Mountain View Lane.
There is a second way in, and it is the one a phone offers a visitor: US-26 west from Exit 57 to the OR-47 junction, then OR-47 south. Locals give the exit number rather than the road name, which is a reliable way to tell who is from North Plains. The freeway route is longer and it is not faster except on the rare afternoon when something has closed a farm road. Drive times for every town we serve are collected on the areas we serve page.

About North Plains
A small city that stopped being small quietly
North Plains had 1,947 residents at the 2010 census and 3,441 at the 2020 one. That is a 76.7 percent increase across a single decade, which made it one of the fastest-growing cities in Washington County by rate rather than by headcount. Portland State's certified estimate for December 2025 puts the city at 4,133. The town has more than doubled inside fifteen years while keeping a main street you can walk end to end.
Most of what North Plains is known for happens outdoors and on a calendar. The Elephant Garlic Festival takes over Jessie Mays Community Park every August, and the Jessie Mays Community Center beside it is the building most local directions get measured from. Horning's Hideout sits north of town and puts a very specific kind of tired body on the road home: people who have spent two or three days camping, walking a hillside, and standing at a show.
Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club is northwest of town, and it is a serious course rather than a local one. Ghost Creek is the public side; Witch Hollow hosted the 1996 U.S. Amateur and the U.S. Women's Open twice, in 1997 and again in 2003. A round there is four to five hours of walking, twisting and standing, which is why a fair number of the bookings that arrive here from this direction are shoulders and low backs rather than general tension.

The reason
Why the drive is worth eight miles of farm road
We are open every day, 9 AM to 8 PM. Not most days, not six days with a floating closure — every day, including Sunday, and the last hour is a bookable hour rather than a cleanup shift. If your week runs on US-26 and you are not home until six, that single fact is the difference between getting a massage and continuing to mean to. The longer version of that argument is on our open late in Forest Grove page.
Walk-ins are genuinely accepted. You can drive in, park in the free lot, come up to Suite 300 and ask what is free, and on most days something is. That is a real convenience when your alternative is a quarter of an hour each way to be told to come back. It is not a guarantee — Saturday afternoons fill — so if you want a specific length at a specific hour, book online at any hour of the night or call during opening hours.
And the price is published, singular, and the same for everyone. No membership, no member and non-member columns, no upcharge for a senior therapist, no fifty-minute hour billed as an hour. A 60-minute Body Massage is $80 by card or in cash, on your first visit or your thirtieth. If you would rather see the whole thing before you drive anywhere, the full menu with every price is one page and it is the same list we read from at the desk.
- Open 9 AM to 8 PM, seven days. Sunday keeps the same hours as Monday.
- Walk-ins welcome every day. Booking ahead only buys you a specific time, not a better session.
- One published price per service, identical by card or cash. Gratuity is never expected.
- Free lot at a professional building shared with a dental practice, an orthodontist, a chiropractor and a counseling practice.
- Two tables in one private room if two of you want to come at the same time — that one needs a phone call.
The menu
What to book, and how to choose in thirty seconds
Four services, and the difference between them is genuinely simple. A Body Massage is the full-body session, from $70 for 45 minutes to $160 for two hours. A Local Massage spends the entire session on one region — neck and shoulders, low back, one hip, one leg — at $50 for half an hour or $100 for a full one. A Combo Massage is half body work and half foot work. A Foot Massage is pressure work through the soles, arches, ankles and calves.
Choose by asking whether the problem is everywhere or somewhere. Everywhere gets the Body Massage: the therapist covers you head to feet at whatever pressure you name, and you do not have to have a plan. Somewhere gets the Local Massage, which is the most concentrated hour we offer and the one to book when a single thing has been bad for weeks. The Combo exists for the honest middle case, where your shoulders ache and you have also been standing all week.
Technique is a separate conversation and it happens out loud at the start. Swedish is the default: long strokes, relaxed pace. Ask for deep tissue and the same session becomes slower and firmer. Acupressure, hot stone, cupping and prenatal work all happen inside these sessions rather than as separate line items, and four hands — two therapists on one person — needs a call ahead because it needs two people free at once. If you are new to any of it, what to expect at a first massage is the ten-minute read.
| If this is you | Book | Length | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Generally tight, no specific complaint | Body Massage | 60 min | $80 |
| One shoulder or one hip, bad for weeks | Local Massage | 60 min | $100 |
| Shoulders ache and you have been on your feet | Combo Massage | 60 min | $75 |
| Feet and calves after a long day standing | Foot Massage | 60 min | $70 |
| Short and focused, on a lunch break | Local Massage | 30 min | $50 |
| Nothing rushed, everything covered | Body Massage | 90 min | $120 |
After a round at Ghost Creek
Four hours of golf leaves a specific pattern: one shoulder tighter than the other, a rotated low back, and forearms nobody thinks about until the next morning. A $100 Local Massage spends the whole hour there, which is the right call when you know exactly where the problem is. If you would rather not choose, a 75 or 90-minute Body Massage covers everything and still leaves real time on the shoulder.
Timing matters more than length. A round that ends at four leaves you comfortably inside our hours, and a 6 PM start after you have showered and eaten is a better session than one booked straight off the eighteenth green. We are open until 8 every night, so you are not choosing between the round and the massage.
If your week runs on US-26
The commute into Hillsboro, Beaverton or Portland leaves the same marks on almost everyone: a band across the top of the shoulders, a neck that has been held at one angle, and a low back that has been supported by a car seat rather than by anything of its own. It is not an injury and it does not need a name. It responds to sustained, slow work through the neck and shoulders far better than to a fast general rub.
Book the evening slot. Coming west out of the valley at 6:30 puts you against the commute rather than in it, and an 8 PM close means a 6:30 start is unhurried at both ends. If the tightness has become a weekly thing rather than an occasional one, our guide on how often to book is more useful than picking a longer session once.
On arrival
The building, the lot, and the first ten minutes
The address is 1911 Mountain View Ln, Suite 300 — a multi-tenant professional building at the corner of 19th Avenue and Mountain View Lane, about 600 feet south of Pacific Avenue. It is shared with Mountain View Dental, Mountain View Counseling, an orthodontist and a chiropractor, and it has its own free lot. If you reach Neil Armstrong Middle School, two blocks further down the same street, you have gone past us. Parking notes and a map are on the contact page.
Check-in is two minutes of talking and then an hour of not talking. The questions are where you want the time spent, how firm the work should be, and whether anything is sore, recent or off-limits. Plain language is the right register — "low back, and go firm" is a complete answer, and nobody expects you to name a muscle. Then the room is yours: on the table under the drape, draped throughout, with only the area being worked uncovered.
Afterwards, take ten minutes and some water before you drive the farm roads back. Those roads are unlit and narrow in places, and coming off a table relaxed is not the moment to hurry them. If you are making an evening of it, McMenamins Grand Lodge is about half a mile west of us on the same street, and downtown Forest Grove and Pacific University are each roughly 1.6 miles west.
Evidence
What massage is good for, and what it is not
We would rather be trusted than impressive, so here is the careful version. West Valley Massage is a relaxation and wellness studio, not a medical provider. Massage does not diagnose anything and it does not treat a condition. What it does reliably is put you somewhere quiet for an hour with somebody working on tight muscle, and that turns out to be worth more than it sounds.
On stress specifically, NCCIH's overview of stress is a useful, non-commercial place to read how the body responds to sustained pressure of the non-physical kind and what the evidence says about the practices people use for it. Massage sits in that family. The effects that are best documented are short-term: less perceived stress, less anxiety, better sleep for a night or two, and looser muscle for rather longer.
Before a first booking, NCCIH's six things to know about massage therapy is worth five minutes — it covers safety, who should check with a doctor first, and what a reasonable expectation looks like. If something is new, severe, or not improving, see a doctor about it. A massage is a poor substitute for a diagnosis and a perfectly good companion to one.
Eight and a half miles by road, six and a half as the crow flies. That two-mile gap is the whole character of the drive.

Massage in Oregon is state-regulated, and every practicing therapist must be licensed: the Oregon State Board of Massage Therapists requires 625 hours of training, a board-approved national exam plus an Oregon law exam, current Basic Life Support certification, and 25 hours of continuing education every two-year renewal — and it requires the studio itself to hold a Board-issued facility permit. Any licensed Oregon therapist or permitted studio can be verified for free on the Board's public lookup.
West Valley Massage is a relaxation and wellness studio, not a medical provider. Massage supports relaxation and general well-being; it does not diagnose or treat medical conditions. Talk with your doctor about pain that is new, severe, or not improving.
